BOTOX / Xeomin / Dysport / Jeaveau

What is Botox Cosmetic?

Botox is a protein derived from a bacterium that has the effect of relaxing the muscle in which it is applied. Muscle relaxation offers many benefits, especially with incredible functions that can alleviate migraine or other conditions caused by muscle tension. But in addition to this use, Botox has excellent results in its cosmetic application, because it allows to reduce or eliminate wrinkles or expression marks on the face, mainly on the forehead, around the eyes, nose and mouth.

How Does It Work?

As we all know, Botox is used to eliminate wrinkles secondary to fine lines on the face. The relaxation is caused by a blockage of unwanted nerve signals on the tissues, with the effect of eliminating those furrows on the skin caused by repeated muscle contraction. We currently have patients who have been treated with Botox for several years with the almost total disappearance of those wrinkles that nobody would like to have and that are so damaging in the photos!

How Long Does It Last?

The actual durability of a Botox application is between 3 and 5 months. This can vary by genetic conditions or by the more or less healthy lifestyle that is carried, among other factors. In people who have undergone several treatments can generate resistance, while the effect is more lasting in patients who are just beginning to be treated. It is advisable not to exceed the three annual applications to avoid losing effectiveness.

How is Botox applied?

The treatment is performed by direct application with syringe and hypodermic needle on specific points of the face. These are super small needles that can sometimes generate minimal pain, which are applied directly to the muscle. The intervention of a qualified health professional is always necessary to prevent a bad application from affecting blood vessels or other unwanted areas.

Are there any side effects?

A correct application should not produce any immediate undesired effects. Normally the patient does not present inflammation or pain after the application, in the same way it is necessary for the professional to keep the application within the safety zones. In cases of poor application, the effects can be hematoma, swelling at the injection site or pain in the affected area.

What Recommendations Should I Follow Before Applying?

It is important for the patient to discuss his medical history with the doctor and to provide the information required to ensure the best result. It is not recommended to take anti-inflammatories or aspirin, nor any anti-coagulant. If you have taken these medications in the previous days or months it is necessary to tell the doctor so they can evaluate if they can interfere with the treatment.

What Recommendations Should I Follow After The Application?

It is advisable not to exercise or lie down in the following four hours after the application. It is described that sometimes the medication can be displaced from its place if the patient performs these activities in the immediate hours. In that case, the treatment could exert its function in another unwanted place of the face or outside the area of application. After the application, our professionals will give you all the indications so that the effect takes place in the safest and most effective way. After that period, the patient can continue with his normal life without any special precautions.

Does It Have Long-Term Consequences?

No, the treatment is really completely harmless. This means that no side effect is directly related to the medication and there are no cases of negative effects due to its prolonged application over time. When a treatment is applied for as many years as Botox, which is available to doctors since the 70s of the last century, we can have full confidence in their safety, due to the high number of studies related to the product and the experience accumulated by millions of applications around the world.

Is it FDA Approved?

Yes! Botox is FDA Approved.

Masseter Tox

The thinning of the jaw with Botulinum therapy is a non-invasive procedure that is gaining popularity. BOTOX is used to thin the jaw line by reducing the volume of the chewing muscle known as the masseter. An injection of BOTOX causes the muscle to atrophy or thin the chewing muscle or the Masseter. Valencia Medical Center offers this advanced method of thinning the jaw for patients who feel their jaw is too wide. This may be due to a number of factors, such as bone, fat or an enlarged muscle in the lower external area of the cheek, all of which can give a broad appearance to the lower jaw.

The ideal candidate for treatment

The best candidates to contour the jaw are:

  • Patients with a wide jaw due to a too large Masseter muscle
  • Patients with a desire to improve the appearance of their jaw.
  • Patients who wish to reduce the flare and width of a wide jaw line without surgery
  • Patients looking for a better facial harmony and a more oval facial shape.

How is the treatment performed?

Valencia Medical Center can thin the jaw with a neuromodulator injection, such as BOTOX, Dysport or Xeomin. Our specialist’s will use a very thin needle to minimize pain and may also use a numbing cream if the patient is sensitive to the discomfort. Numbing creams usually take approximately 15-20 minutes to affect patients. Most patients need two treatments, but the range is usually 1-3 (spaced a month apart). In general, the thinning of the jaw is well tolerated and extremely popular in our practice.

Dermal Fillers

There are many customized facial contouring filler inflatables available to help improve and reduce fine lines and wrinkles and add volume to lips as well as flattened or hollowed cheeks and temple areas. Each offer their own benefits and provide long-lasting results that will enhance your natural beauty and help turn back time.

Here are some general Facial Contouring Filler Q’s and A’s

Q: How long does filler last?
A: Fillers can last from 6-18 months based on the area they are used in.

Q. What are dermal fillers?
A. Dermal fillers are products that are injected into the dermis of the skin to subtly increase volume and soften folds and wrinkles of the face. The first dermal filler was approved by the FDA in 1981. There are several types & brands of fillers ie. Hyaluronic Acid (HA’s) Juvederm/Voluma, Restylane Lyft/Silk, and calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) Radiesse.

Q: How do dermal fillers work?
A: Fillers are injected below the surface of the skin to volumize areas that have lost their natural volume due to decreased production of hyaluronic acid, college & elastin as well as loss of fat, muscle and bone. Fillers are an excellent tool to create lift in the mid face region as well as fill the valleys and plump regions around the mouth.

Q: What is the difference between tox and fillers?
A: The easiest way to visualize the difference between botox and dermal fillers is to think of mountains and valleys. Botox smooths out mountains and prevents them from being pushed together, while dermal fillers fill in valleys.

Q: Are skin tests needed before treatment?
A: No skin testing is required prior to use.

Q: What are the side effects?
A: The most commonly reported side effects are temporary injection site redness, swelling, pain/tenderness, firmness, lumps/bumps, and bruising. These symptoms usually resolve within a couple of hours to a couple of days.

Q: Can I do anything to help reduce the risk of these side effects?
A: What is recommended is taking arnica montanta 2 days before any procedure & continuing several days after if bruising does occur.

Q: What medications or supplements should I avoid before getting fillers?
A: If you are taking blood thinners or medications* that may interfere with clotting of the blood, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, aleve, or most non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, gingko, Vitamin E, St. Johns’ whort, red wine, you might be more likely to have bruising or bleeding at the injection site. Stopping these 2-7 days in advance & 1-2 days after is highly recommended.

*Note: if on coumadin, plavix or any other agent for stroke prevention it is NOT recommended to stop without your doctor’s clearance.

Q: I have a big event planned, when should I schedule a filler treatment in order to look my best for the event?
A: Although fillers offer immediate results you may experience some swelling and bruising as a result of treatments. Giving yourself 1 month prior to a large event will allow you the time necessary to heal from the procedure and adjust to your great new look! Minimum 2 weeks before a not so large event.

Sculptra Injection Treatment

Significant Difference, Long-Lasting Results

Sculptra Injection Treatment is a synthetic, biodegradable, injectable dermal filler, used to treat signs of aging on facial skin. The active ingredient in Sculptra is the alpha-hydroxy acid poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which is used in numerous medical applications besides dermal injections.

Areas Treated with Sculptra

Sculptra is used for treating shallow to deep facial folds and wrinkles. The most popular areas for treatment are:

  • Nasolabial folds (the “smile lines” extending from the nose to the corners of the mouth)
  • Marionette lines (extend vertically down the chin from the corners of the mouth)
  • Hollows or skin depressions, such as sunken cheeks
  • Chin wrinkles

How Sculptra Works

As we age, the collagen and elastin that provide the support structure of our skin and which are responsible for the suppleness and elasticity of our skin lose their connections and become disorganized and dried out.  This gives skin the baggy, wrinkled, and dry appearance that we associate with aging.

Sculptra is a unique product because it is a “stimulatory” filler. Stimulatory fillers do not fill the space under the skin with their own volume, but rather stimulate the body to produce a fibrous collagen support structure that builds up to support the lost volume and to tighten the loose skin, thereby softening lines and wrinkles.

Sculptra is usually administered over a series of treatment sessions. Results improve with each injection as more and more collagen builds up. Generally, at least three treatment sessions, 4-6 weeks apart, are required for optimal results.

Once collagen build-up has occurred, the biodegradable PLLA is absorbed by the body, leaving just the natural collagen support structure. The results usually last up to two years, or even longer. One study showed that 40% of people still see the results of their treatment after 3 years.

Sculptra can also be used off-label for:

  • Butt augmentations and butt lifts
  • Hip augmentation
  • Treatment of cellulite
  • Treatment of elbow, knee and chest wrinkles

Sculptra is also a popular choice for those looking to create the appearance of more muscle mass and definition on the:

  • Pectorals
  • Triceps
  • Biceps
  • Glutes
  • Thighs

It’s not recommended that Sculptra be used around the eyes or the lips.

Are You A Good Candidate for Sculptra?

  • Sculptra is only for use in people who are 18 years of age and up.
  • Since Sculptra stimulates the immune system to create collagen, you must have a healthy immune system to be a candidate for injections.
  • The safety of Sculptra has not been established for women who are pregnant, lactating, or breastfeeding.
  • People who are susceptible to keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring should not be treated with Sculptra.

Kybella: Get Rid of Your Double Chin Permanently

First and only FDA-approved

Non-surgical, non-invasive treatment

With a few expertly placed injections of Kybella, our experienced doctors at Valencia Medical Center can help you ditch your double chin. Kybella is the first and only FDA-approved non-surgical, non-invasive treatment that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness sometimes referred to as “double chin”.

You and your doctor will create a personalized treatment plan to help you improve your chin profile. Most patients experience a noticeable improvement of the contouring of their chin profile in two to four treatment sessions spaced at least one month apart.

How Does Kybella Work?

Kybella is administered as a series of injections into the fat beneath your chin, causing the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.

The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.

Kybella May Be Right For You If:

  • You are embarrassed or self-conscious by the fat under your chin, also referred to as submental fullness
  • You feel that you look older or heavier than you actually are
  • You eat well and exercise, but you can’t get the fat under your chin to go away
  • You don’t want to have an invasive treatment or surgery
